Manhunt for Lauren Burk Killer Underway

Police launched manhunt for the killer of 18-year-old Auburn University freshman Lauren Burk.

Burk was found Tuesday night suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Shortly after Burk was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center police received a call about a vehicle fire. Police later determined the car belonged to the Auburn student.

Lauren Burk was from Marietta, Ga. and had been a freshman pledge with the Delta Gamma sorority at Auburn University.

The University released a statement in which it assured student “there is no indication of additional danger to campus or student safety. Even so, the Auburn Police Division and Auburn University officials are taking all necessary precautions, including increasing police presence, to ensure the safety of our students and employees. Meanwhile, students should be careful not just on campus, but within the larger community, and be alert at all times."

Patrick Swayze diagnosed with cancer

Patrick Swayze, the dancer and starring actor of such hit films as "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost," has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, published reports said on Wednesday.

Swayze, 55, was diagnosed with cancer more than a month ago, the New York Post reported on its Web site, citing a representative for the actor.

"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue," Swayze's physician, Dr. George Fisher, said in a statement released to the celebrity Web site TMZ.com by the actor's publicist.

Several media reports said the actor was in grave condition with only weeks to live, but the statement on TMZ.com said Swayze was continuing his normal schedule and that he appreciated the "outpouring of concern" from the public.

Swayze's spokeswoman declined to comment to Reuters and no further details were available.

Swayze, 55, is best known for his role as dance instructor Johnny Castle opposite Jennifer Grey's character, infatuated teenager Frances "Baby" Houseman, in the 1987 movie musical "Dirty Dancing."

The film, which centers on an unlikely romance between the pair at a 1960s resort in the Catskills of New York, defied expectations to become a massive hit, earning both actors Golden Globe Award nominations.
Swayze performed the song "She's Like the Wind" for the movie's soundtrack and his signature line, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner," has become a pop culture staple

"Dirty Dancing," which also featured the Oscar-winning song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" -- remains widely popular two decades later and is replayed almost constantly on TV in the United States.

Swayze went on to star alongside Demi Moore in the 1990 tear-jerker romance "Ghost," which also became a huge box office hit and was nominated for an Academy Award for best picture.

The Texas-born Swayze, whose dancer-choreographer mother owned a Houston ballet studio, began performing at an early age and got his start in show business as a dancer and on the stage before landing film and TV roles in Hollywood.

Gnarls Barkley - “Run” Video Banned from MTV

The video for Gnarls Barkley’s new single, “Run,” may feature a cameo from Justin Timberlake, but it’s still not quite ready to air on MTV.

That’s because of its strobe effects, which caused the clip to fail the Harding Test — guidelines accomplished to prevent TV images from triggering epileptic seizures.

However, the video is available on assorted online outlets, and Gnarls Barkley member Danger Mouse was hopeful the situation could be resolved shortly.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but we’re accepting issues. I think (the video) is cool. It works for me. But I’m not inevitably that easily seasick,” he told Billboard.com. “We can’t predict how people are going to interpret it.”

“Run” centers about the fictional public access TV show “City Vibin”‘ and is set in the early ’90s. Timberlake appears as the host of the program, on which Danger Mouse and fellow Gnarls Barkley principal Cee-Lo then perform the track.

With its new album, “The Odd Couple,” nearing its April 8 release date, Gnarls Barkley are about to shoot a video for the second single, “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul.”

The group is also rehearsing for summer tour dates, which include a July 27 show at Los Angeles‘ Hollywood Bowl and both U.S. and European festivals.

“We didn’t plan last time to do a whole bunch, and we don’t plan to do a whole bunch this time, but you just never know how it’s going to feel until you go out there,” Danger Mouse said.

Ohio Primary results 2008, Hillary or Obama, election results

The pollsters are proclaiming a dead hot up between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in Ohio. Rush Limbaugh is urging people to vote for Hilary. Will there be enough new voters voting for Obama? Wish enough people vote for Hilary to stop Obama? As soon as the results are clean, they will be posted here.

Here are a few comments from AOL Hot Seat:

“Truthfully, I think that History will tell our posterity that 2008 was the year that “America Woke Up” and realized, you can’t keep electing Liberal Socialist Demoncrats into office and allowing them to keep waving the American Flag, while they are constantly empowering Government to regulate our thoughts, actions, and desires, with absolutely no ability of freedom of choice in how we will live!

NO MORE DEMONCRATS. Freedom Forever!!!!!!!”

Regarding the Rush Limbaugh impact:

“His plan very well could work. His objective is only to keep the vote close enough to keep Hitlary in the race, and keep these two Liberal Socialists fighting, tearing down, and exposing each other for what they REALLY ARE.

Keep both of these Liberal Socialist Democrats (LSD) active and fighting”

By mid afternoon, election officials in Ohio and Texas indicate a high voter turnout, despite bad weather.

Airborne settles lawsuit for $23.3 million

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Airborne - the herbal supplement company that once claimed to help fight off colds - will pay $23.3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit brought against the company for false advertising, according to one of the groups that joined the suit.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a non-profit advocacy group, said the company will refund money to consumers who bought Airborne's product. It will pay for advertisements in major publications instructing consumers on how to get their money refunded.

"There's no credible evidence that what's in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment," said CSPI Senior nutritionist David Schardt. "Airborne is basically on overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that's been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed."

According to the company's Web site, Airborne was created by second-grade teacher, Victoria Knight-McDowell, who "studied the benefits herbal therapies used in Eastern Medicine." The site says Airborne "boosts the immune system with seven herbal extracts and a proprietary blend of vitamins, electrolytes, amino acids and antioxidants."

A recorded message at the toll-free number of the class-action settlement administrator said that Airborne Health Inc. has admitted no wrongdoing. Airborne Inc., Airborne Health Inc. and Knight-McDowell Labs are among the defendants in the class action lawsuit, filed in the Central District of California in U.S. District Court.

"Defendants deny any wrongdoing or illegal conduct," the message says, "but have agreed to settle the litigation."

A hearing to consider final approval of the settlement is scheduled for June 16.

Airborne changed their advertising campaign when a plaintiff filed suit against the company in March 2006.

That came after an ABC News report disclosed that the company's clinical trials were not conducted by doctors or scientists, but instead carried out by two laypeople.

Advertisements stopped mentioning the study and cold-curing claims and instead touted claims that it helped boost the body's immune systems.

In late 2006 the CSPI joined the suit as co-counsel against Airborne and in 2007 the Federal Trade Commission and an assembly of state attorney generals began investigating the firm's cold-curing claims professed since its creation in 1999.
